Welcome to my new series, where I'll be sharing what's been inspiring me lately! I'll be real with you...March and April are probably my least favorite months of the year. The weather in the northeast is just...pretty gross. One day it's snowing, every other day it's raining...it just generally doesn't know what season it wants to be.
And then recently...I discovered Palm Royale on Apple TV. Set in Palm Beach in the late 60s, Maxime, our main character and former pageant queen from Chattanooga, Tennessee is trying to be part of the "it-crowd," the stylish socialites of The Palm Royale, the most exclusive club in all of Palm Beach. While the plot keeps me wanting more every week, the interior style has truly captivated me! Whether it's the fabulous vibe of the Palm Royale, vintage Breakers Hotel, or the elaborate and eclectic Delacorte Mansion, this show is a treat for the eyes. If you're feeling the seasonal blues like me, or just looking for a good new show, I highly recommend it. My husband and I are both loving it, which is a win-win!
This inspired me to look into the history of Palm Beach interior style, and what defines it. According to American Screen Solutions, Palm Beach Interior style first emerged in the early 20th century, when wealthy snowbirds began flocking to Palm Beach to escape the harsh northeast winters. Their passion for grandeur and eclectic elegance manifested into the elaborate mansions and lux furnishings that still define the area today. Decorator Dorothy Draper and Architect Addison Mizner played a major role in the movement.

So, what defines Palm Beach glamour?
Vibrant Color Palette
Bright pinks, greens, blues, and corals. I especially love how they experiment with color in their upholstery, such as couches, curtains, and chairs. Even vibrant pillows on a white couch - it's truly an energizing and refreshing statement.

Tropical and Coastal Motifs
The thing that's so cool about Palm Beach interior design, from my outsider opinion of scrolling Pinterest, seeing it on my TV screen, and feeling incredibly inspired, is the way the classic northeast coastal elegant style meets the fun and playful tropical style. It's like if the east coast, weathered-shingle summer home had a fun and adventurous twin sister. Best of both worlds. :)

Coastal Collectors
Another aspect of the Palm Beach style I absolutely love is the way they collect sentimental items, whether it be antiques, funky seashells, old books, jewelry boxes...a true curated collection and yet everything has a place. This is something the New England and Palm Beach "twins" both share. Except you might see a few miniature zebras in the Palm Beach sister's collections. :)
